Shahbaz Taseer offers a job opportunity to the manager of Cannoli, Awais Aftab

Pakistan is a multilingual country. But amidst all the languages in our country, English is the only international language which is commonly spoken among the people. Unfortunately, we’ve made ‘English Language’ the sole criterion to judge a person’s intelligence.

Recently a video went viral on social media in which two ladies who are apparently the owner of a well-known cafe, purportedly recorded a video clip. As they were ‘bored’ and decided to humiliate their employee, Awais Aftab, who failed to impress the ‘English-speaking elites’.

What happened?

Uzma Chaudhry and Dia Haider, the owners of Cannoli by Cafe Soul which is located in Islamabad recorded and posted a video. In the video, they are making fun of their restaurant’s manager for his poor English.

They posted this video on their restaurant’s social media account. While the video started the two of them call Awais (the manager) and asked him about how much time he spent learning English?

However, soon after that, the good things took a dark turn. Soon enough, they started laughing at his poor English and ridicule him in front of everyone including the staff.

While the video was removed by the restaurant, many had already picked it up. Let’s take a look:

Netizens reaction

Netizens condemned this act of shallowness from the owners. Many boycott Cannoli restaurant and others outrage over this “Elite English Culture”.  The hashtag #BoycottCannoli was moving on Twitter.

Here’s a clip of PM Khan’s thoughts about speaking English.

Shahbaz Taseer offered Awais the job

That is to say that not all heroes wear capes. The same case happened with Awais when Shahbaz Taseer, a Pakistani businessman, and the son of the former Governor of Punjab Salman Taseer stepped up for the Cannoli manager and graciously offered him a job.
Taseer took to his Twitter handle to announce:

What an initiative by him!

After getting in touch with the manager, Shahbaz Taseer added:

From Azam Jamil To Shahbaz Taseer, Offers Start Pouring In For Cannoli Manager. Senior Consultant at Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), Azam Jamil, in a similar attempt to Taseer, promised to get Awais a better opportunity in a year’s time at one of Tevta’s centers in Murree.

And while Azam Jamil was hoping to get Awais a job, his nephew aka Shahbaz Taseer had already made him an offer. The hotelier praised his nephew’s efforts and praised the power of social media too.

The apology

It is pertinent to mention here that after all the uproar on social media. The restaurant’s owners released a statement posting their apology.
