Diriliş: Ertuğrul has become one of the most popular TV shows in Pakistan in recent times. The Turkish historical fiction series saw a sharp increment in its popularity PM Imran Khan recommended the show to Pakistani youth and decided to publish it on the national television channel PTV.  Since then, all age groups of Pakistani people have felt mesmerized by the extraordinary quality of production and religious themed story line. However, the famous Lollywood celebrity Shaan Shahid seems to oppose the idea of PTV publishing the series as he expressed his disappointment with PTV on Twitter.

Shaan Is Disappointed With PTV For Airing ‘Diriliş: Ertuğrul’

Shaan dropped the first hint of him disliking the concept of showing other countries’ drama serials in Pakistan after a PTI leader Faisal Javed Khan tweeted some information for the Turkish show. Shaan out of nowhere responded to the tweet advising the PTI leader to try to search for heroes from the national and rich history of Pakistan.

Why Is Shaan Disappointed With PTV?

The Lollywood actor received a tonne of response to his reply from people all around Pakistan, with a very few supporting his stance. Yet, he remained steadfast in explaining his concerns to everyone. People were of the view that the ancient history of Pakistan was full of extravagant kings and princes who opted every anti-religious luxury and schemes to embellish themselves. Recent history including the creation of Pakistan had already been covered by drama serials and now it was time to introduce the youth to battle forged legends and epics of Islam.

Shaan commended the idea of the person tweeting it, but he proceeded to ask whether such productions were not possible in Pakistan. He wrote in his tweet that Pakistan should not be borrowing these epic tales and should produce similar but original content. He even addressed PTV asking about the usage of funds allotted by government from tax payers’ money which were designated with the sole purpose of producing new content.

One person apparently did not like Shaan complaining and asked him that why was he not doing something to bring forward original content like Diriliş: Ertuğrul. He was of the view that instead of complaining and seeking attention, he should be working on such Pakistan based projects for practical betterment.

To that Shaan responded by mentioning the ground reality that development of such cost intensive and time consuming projects are not possible without keen interest of the government of a nation. He also mocked Pakistan’s lack of administrative and technological assets by asking the random man whether he should build his own rocket because he wanted to see the national flag on the moon. He was trying to make a point that when national government is not interested in a certain endeavor, its initiation and completion is not possible.

The Lollywood actor considers it a major responsibility of PTV, PNCA and Culture Ministry to produce content that promotes Islam and diverse history of Pakistan. In his view, money is spent anyways in buying the rights to a foreign production. But borrowing foreign drama serials displays the lack of content in Pakistan and the failure of Pakistani industry’s to produce good historical dramas, thus thrashing a part of national integrity for international audience.

The Future For Diriliş: Ertuğrul

Diriliş: Ertuğrul has gained a major chunk of its popularity because of the fact that it shares uncanny resemblance to a couple of viral drama series previously aired in Pakistan. One is the internationally acclaimed Game of Thrones and the other Mera Sultan, which coincidentally is once again Turkish. This Turkish drama features brave leaders defending their kingdoms and fighting for their rights, with their valor coming by their investment of trust in Allah Almighty.
