Sarfaraz Ahmed, a wicketkeeper and batsman, has been dropped from captaincy in T20 and Test series. This happened due to the lack of his overall form. Azhar Ali will be the test series Captain and Babar Azam will be T20 captain in place of Sarfaraz Ahmed, PCB board announced on Friday, 18 October.
Azhar Ali, Pakistan’s new Test keeper, was feeling pleased and joyful with his new responsibility. He said, “There is no bigger honor than to captain the Pakistan national cricket team in the pinnacle format of the game”. Azhar Ali will provide captaincy at the test series against Australia and the upcoming World Test Championship 2019-20.
An announcement has also been made for the change in the squad for ODI matches. Due to the lack of Sarfaraz’s overall performance, The PCB decided to remove Sarfaraz from Captaincy. In the previousT20match against Srilanka, Pakistan lost badly due to lack of body language and poor performance. This match was hosted in Lahore.

The PCB Chairman, Ehsan Mani, said that it was difficult to remove Sarfaraz Ahmed from the cricket team. He has given a great performance in the previous years. Under his captaincy, Pakistan won Champions Trophy and has won 29 matches out of 37. He said in a Press release,” I am thankful to all my colleagues, coaches and team selectors who have helped me achieve this journey, It would be an honour to lead Pakistan at the highest level.”
The number 1 ranked T20 batsman in the world, Babar Azam, helped the team a lot to gain a “strong side” and achieve number 1 spot, “It is my responsibility to take forward Sarfaraz Ahmed’s accomplishments in T20Is so that we remain a consistent, attractive and powerful side,” said Azam.
Previously, Babar Azam has been the Captain of Pakistan in ICC under-19 Worldcup 2012. Presently, he will be doing captaincy in T20 matches against Australia and until 2020 T20 World cup, which is just a year away. Babar Azam declared as a captain of a side, says, “it is the biggest thing that happened to me in my career to date.”
