Now Reading: Restaurant Staff brutally beats Pregnant Woman and Husband

Videos and pictures are making rounds on social media of Murree which show tourists being insulted, abused and physically attacked by some people who were, supposedly, locals. These locals were allegedly a restaurant’s staff and its management and the assaulted folks were a husband along with his pregnant wife.

This incident took place on September 12, 2020 at the Gloria Jeans Coffee Shop near Murree Expressway. In one of the circulating viral videos regarding the incident, a man can be heard shouting and yelling at the top of his lungs, “My wife is pregnant! She is pregnant!” as the staff allegedly continues to assault his family and him while others try to deescalate the situation.

As per rumors, the restaurant staff beat up the husband and his wife because of either an exchange of hot words between the man and the hotel staff or because one of the man’s family used the restaurant’s washroom. Whatever the reason may be, the following clips of the incident suggestthat the rumors are indeed true i.e. the Gloria Jeans staff did in fact manhandle the man and the woman carrying a child.

Police Takes Action on the Incident

After the videos of the incident went viral, social media went into a frenzy and backed the tourists with encouragement all the while attacking the gloria management for letting this happen. As this gained more traction, the police was also forced to take notice of this brutality. As per various tweets from the police, the case was registered by a tourist named Ali Touqeer against 10 people including hotel manager of Gloria Jeans, Murree.

Moreover, the police assured that CCTV footage of the incident has been obtained along with medical reports of tourists for the investigation. SP Saddar stated;

“Raids are being carried out to arrest the accused. The accused will be arrested and punished. No one should be allowed to use violence, harassment or intimidation. Merit and the rule of law will be ensured.”

Later on, it was revealed that three main suspects in the incident have already been arrested.

Other Side of the Story

While the internet is in favor of the tourists as incidents of such nature where the locals have assaulted the tourists is unfortunately not something new, some people have suggested to look at the other side of things and have claimed that it was the owner of Gloria Jeans who was beaten along with his wife. They are claiming that the that tourists bashed the owners for being asked to not use the GJ washroom.

The management of Gloria Jeans addressed the situation themselves in a live stream where they backed these claims. They suggested that the restaurant’s staff were defending themselves as the family was the one who started abusing them first. They added that they were only following the government’s given SOPs of not allowing more than two people into the washrooms at once. On this, the customers got angry and made a big scene, abusing the employees.
