Now Reading: Punjab Government Allows Restaurants and Tourist Spots To Reopen
As the coronavirus cases in the country continue to reach all time highs, the Punjab government has decided to allow restaurants, food stalls and other various tourist spots to reopen. The government took this decision during a cabinet committee meeting on coronavirus. Chief Minister of Punjab – Usman Buzdar – gave the directions to convene this meeting. Whilst the reopening of these businesses has been confirmed, the timings are still under discussion.
The committee meeting further decided that shopping malls and other markets would be permitted to stay open from 9 am to 5 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. While on the remaining three days, these businesses would stay closed. The provincial government also gave recommendations to the federal government to open recreational sites and tourist spots such as Murree. The National Coordination Committee got the recommendations from the committee for final approval.
Convened by CM Buzdar, the meeting was headed by Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan and was attended by Law Minister Raja Basharat along with Commerce Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal.
In the meeting, the officials of the health department also briefed the attendees about the coronavirus situation. Other administrative agencies presented a report on the implementation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in various business sites. LCCI President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh stated;
“We have to live with coronavirus like various other diseases, therefore, the government should manage and allow businesses to reopen.”
Overwhelming Number Of Coronavirus Cases In The Country
Pakistan is among the fastest rising countries in the world, when it comes to the number of COVID-19 cases at least. With over 66,000 cases and a death count of around 1400, the coronavirus tally is at an all time high. Over 24,000 of these cases arise from Punjab. At this rate, it will not be long before Pakistan has more total cases than China. Various businesses and restaurants have reopened now. The country will surely see an increase in the rate of cases with this decision.
All the businesses that have had the luck of getting reopened must fulfill their responsibilities and follow SOPs to the fullest to prevent the virus from spreading as much as possible.
