Almost 400 Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) employees have lost their jobs as PTDC decides to shutter 30 of their Motels in North.
Unexpectedly, the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has announced the closure of more than 30 of its exquisite northern motels. Moreover, the bad news continued with the immediate dismissal of all relevant employees.
What’s the Reason?
As per details from the company notification, The motels are in the financial loss for many years and Coronavirus pandemic plays its role well to make the financial statements worst.
Around 30 motels owned by PTDC in Hunza, Naran, Kaghan, Swat, Kalam, Chitral and Gilgit and other areas have been closed to the public. The list of closed motels is not revealed yet.
The Company’s notification said:
“Due to the irreparable and continuous financial losses having no other resource, as well as current COVID-19 pandemic, decisions of the Federal Government & PTDC BOD, the Board of Directors, Motels (North)Ltd in its meeting held on 09.01.2020 and 17.06.2020 unanimously resolved to close down the operations of the company.”
While this sudden move has left many people unemployed, some have been associated with the PTDC for two decades.
According to a news channel, the officer of PTDC revealed that:
“The alternative to promoting and marketing tourism in the country will now be handled by an alternative body of international standards.”
PTDC Chairman’s Tweets
Zulfi Bukhari, the Chairman of PTDC and the National Tourism Coordination Board (NTCB) tweeted about the future of PTDC.
We‘re making changes in PTDC as a step towards restructuring it in accordance with global best practices & NOT shutting it down. This was imp to do because over time due to mismanagement of resources & political appointments it had become a stagnant organisation running in loss.

Further, he warned those who are making a fuss by saying that ‘PTDC will become a more efficient org with a better workforce & improved policy-making.’
It will cont to work as a federal implementation body under NTCB,new structure is proposed in consultation with field experts.
For those causing hue&cry, there’s no need for it-PTDC is finally on its way to become a more efficient org with better workforce & improved policy making— Sayed Z Bukhari (@sayedzbukhari) July 2, 2020
A few months back the employees protest against the low salaries and stopped working until the pay raise. Moreover, in Sep 2019 PTDC management’s claimed that employees are not at all performing their duties. For this very reason, they fired 450 employees at once.
However, this fact can’t be denied that private hotels and motels are making more profit then government motels. The reason is obvious, government employees are not willing to work. As a result, many government organizations collapsed.
