PM Imran Khan wants to end inflation by a 15 bn relief package


Islamabad: A meeting of federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan will be held today in which major decisions will be announced.

The Prime Minister has decided to bring a package of up to Rs 15 billion for relief of the people suffering from inflation.

According to sources, the relief will be given to the people on various food items through the utility stores, prices will be monitored by the district level administration and strong action will be taken against the store owners.

The package of Rs 15 billion will cover all major commodities, while ordinary citizens will get cheaper items from utility stores.

Every month from February to June 2020, utility stores will be given a subsidy of Rs 2 billion and cheaper items will be available at 7,000 utility stores across the country. The first package will be by June, the new package arrives in July, rice, oil, ghee, and flour will be available at utility stores. The federal government has also issued a directive to buy 2 lakh tonnes of wheat.

According to the reports of government agencies that have been submitted to PM Imran Khan, disclosed that the mafia was behind the wheat shortage crisis in the country. PM Imran Khan has ordered a thorough inquiry into the matter.

The prime minister said,

“He is not satisfied with the performance of ECC and emphasized the need for more interaction with the media. In this manner, the public will be well aware of government fiscal policies.”

The PM brings some changes to the government’s economic team. He revealed that the Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Shabbar Zaidi could not continue his job due to illness. Moreover, Mr. Zaiddi is also on medical leave.

However, Dr. Hafeez Shaikh and State Bank Governor Dr. Reza Baqir will continue to serve on their present positions.
