Now Reading: PM Imran Calls Sheikh Hasina, Invites Her To Visit Pakistan
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan initiated a telephonic conversation with the PM of Bangladesh – Sheikh Hasina – and extended a cordial invitation to her to visit the capital of Pakistan as he discussed bilateral cooperation with her. The premier’s office confirmed that this invitation comes as other diplomatic efforts are being made to improve the mutual relations between the two countries i.e. Pakistan and Bangladesh.
According to the official statements, the Prime Ministers of both the countries talked on several matters which included the issue of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Highlighting the importance of good mutual relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh, Prime Minister Imran Khan also reaffirmed Sheikh Hasina about Pakistan’s commitment to SAARC (The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation).
He further underlined the need of both countries working together to enhance regional cooperation between them and especially stressed the importance of a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute for a safe and prosperous future for the region. “Pakistan is committed to deepening fraternal relations with Bangladesh on the basis of mutual trust, mutual respect and sovereign equality,” stated PM Imran Khan as per the Premier’s office.
The Two Leaders Also Discussed Coronavirus Response
During the 15-minute telephonic conversation between the two leaders, they discussed their respective steps to deal with the hardships and challenges posed by COVID-19 to both their countries. “The Pakistan Premier phoned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at around 1 p.m. and wanted to know from her about the coronavirus situation in Bangladesh and how her government is combating the deadly disease,” Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told the media.
Furthermore, PM Khan extended his condolences for the lives lost to the deadly pandemic as well as for the material and human loss the country had to face because of the recent flooding in Bangladesh. He also expressed his prayers for quick recovery of the people affected by the natural calamity. Aside from this, he commended his Bangladesh counterpart on the measures her leadership took to contain the virus and also shared his idea of ‘Global Initiative on Debt Relief’ for developing countries with her.
PM Sheikh Hasina Wajid herself also lauded Prime Minister Imran Khan for his government’s smart lockdown strategy and how it served to save both lives and livelihood of the masses.
This is the second call made my PM Khan within a period of a year to the Bangladeshi premier and it will hopefully serve to rebuild diplomatic ties between the two estranged countries. It would also be a great thing if Sheikh Hasina takes PM Khan up on his offer and visits Pakistan as soon as the pandemic is over!
