Federal minister of science and technology, Fawad Chaudhry recently tweeted that the government of Pakistan had finally been able to introduce a man of science in the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee for the first time in the history of Pakistan. Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is the national body appointed with the solo responsibility of moon sighting for Islamic events. But it had been supervised and run only by religious scholars of Pakistan belonging tomany different sects – until now.

The man appointed as the representative of the ministry of science and technology is Dr. Tariq Masood, Secretary M/O Science and Technology. He is expected to share his scientific knowledge and understanding with the Ruet committee in precise determination of moon sighting for Ramadan.
Long Awaited Feat For Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry
Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is basically comprised by well-renowned religious scholars from all around Pakistan who gather before every major Islamic event for moon sighting for the accurate allocation of dates. The problem with this system, according to Fawad Chaudhry, is that it is extremely outdated and inefficient. This system relies heavily on the use of large telescopes and testimonies or “Shahaadats” of moon-sighting shared by fellow bodies all across Pakistan.
Fawad Chaudhry being the minister of science of technology had been suggesting for a long time to opt scientific methods for moon sighting and for the assembly of a lunar calender. He was also of the view that Pakistan was the only country using old and commonplace means for the matter despite being equipped with adequate technology provided by SUPARCO.
Fawad Chaudhry On Committee’s Decision of Inclusion
Fawad Chaudhry has expressed his delight and sense of achievement all across social media saying that is the correct step forward for future endeavors. It was a long awaited change in an otherwise modest and cost-intensive system which was being neglected just because of political intentions and egoistic ideologies.

Fawad Chaudhry along with his ministry had put out a 5 year lunar calendar predicting the dates for moon-sightings and Islamic events. He has also challenged the respective bodies that the predictions have a very small chance of deviating from the designed schedule, all because of seeking help from science and astrophysics.
