Religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel is being criticized on social media after it emerged that he allegedly received a million rupees for making dua of Nikkah at a lavish wedding ceremony on which more than 200 crore rupees were spent.
The lavish wedding ceremony of the kids of two business tycoons was already making rounds on social media. The son and daughter of Jalal Sons and Master Tiles tied the knot recently and their wedding festivities have been the talk of the town.
Tariq Jameel was among the public figures invited to the ceremony. The wedding ceremony also featured dances from foreign dancers, but Tariq Jameel’s participation in the extravagant ceremony became the highlight of the event.
Following the wedding controversy, the Federal Bureau of Revenue issued a notice to both parties and revealed the details of their expenditures. Also in attendance among other prominent guests and celebrities, was religious preacher Maulana Tariq Jameel who reportedly conducted the Nikkah ceremony.
According to the FBR, he takes Rs. 1 million (10 lakhs) for his services. However, the religious scholar has denied taking any money for the event.
Maulana Tariq’s Response
Maulana Tariq Jameel has responded to the rumors circulating on social media. He said in a Facebook post that the obstacle in our development is our moral decline.
“I have traveled around 6 continents to preach the message of Allah and I have been preaching the life of our Prophet (PBUH) to the Ummah for a very long time. The hurdle in our advancement is our moral decline. My message for those who accused me of taking money for performing nikah is that in the journey of preaching the message of Allah I have performed nikah of thousands of boys and girls for the sake of Allah”, he added.
Tariq Jameel wrote, “I have a long friendship with Sheikh Mahmood Sahib.”
Twitter users took a strong exception to Jameel’s participation in the wedding saying that he preaches modesty and humbleness while he himself endorsed an unnecessary lavish wedding. Many people criticized Jameel over his “hypocritical” stance regarding the “message of simplicity in Islam”.
Maulana Tariq Jameel is a con man who earns billions by preaching Islam but he himself participates in events which are totally against islamic values. Why don't you practice what you preach Moulana? Mullah can do anything for money. Anything https://t.co/fPhgUnThYy

Our dilemma is that we are stranded between QTV and MTV.

2020- A tough year for Maulana Tariq Jameel
This year, the renowned Islamic preacher has faced a lot of backlash for multiple reasons. First, for blaming the ‘immodest’ women for the spread of deadly coronavirus in Pakistan during the live telethon. people criticized him for his misogynistic remarks.
Maulana advised people to abstain from vices like indecency, lie, fraud, and illegal means of earning a livelihood. Later, he issued an apology to the media and claimed that TV channels were only telling lies.
