The military’s media wing announced on Tuesday that Major General Nigar Johar has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General as a result of her spectacular performance in different leadership and administrative appointments/roles, which is another big achievement for her as it makes her the first woman in the history of Pakistan Army to be promoted to that rank.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) told in a statement that Lieutenant General Nigar Johar has also been appointed as the first female surgeon general of Pakistan Army. She is currently serving as Commandant Military Hospital (CMH) in Rawalpindi.
DG ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar said in his statement:
“She (Nigar Johar) is the 1st female officer to be promoted as Lieutenant General. The officer has been appointed as 1st female Surgeon General of Pak Army. Lieutenant General Nigar Johar hails from Panjpeer, District Swabi KPK.”

In 2017, Nigar also became the third female officer in the history of Pakistan Army to reach the rank of Major General. She has also served as Vice Principal of the Army Medical College. She has also received Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Fatima Jinnah Gold Medal from the prime minister for her admirable services in Army Medical Corps.
She is the niece of retired Major Mohammad Aamir, a former officer of Pakistan Army who served in the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Her father, Colonel Qadir, also worked in the ISI.
According to PID, Nigar is from Panjpir Village of Swabi District and she is also a sharp shooter apart from being a doctor. She completed her schooling from Presentation Convent Girls High School, Rawalpindi and graduated from Army Medical College in 1985.
In 2015, she received a Masters degree in public health from the University of Health Sciences, Lahore. She also has the honor of being the first woman officer to be given command of a unit/hospital of the armed forces.

Many people including some political leaders started praising Nigar on social media platforms for her outstanding services for the Pakistan Army.
