Lahore Qalandars pull a MASSIVE upset victory over Quetta Gladiators in Pakistan Super League 2020. Lahore Qalandars defeated defending Champions Quetta Gladiators by 37 runs to secure their very first win of the league at Gaddafi Stadium- Lahore.
The match began with Quetta Gladiators winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. This decision was soon regretted though as the Qalandars set a huge target of Two Hundred and Ten (210) runs for the Gladiators to chase. Chasing that huge target of 210 runs, the Gladiators were bowled out for One hundred and Seventy Two (172) runs in exactly 20 overs.
Man of the match
Ben Dunk – Left Handed Batsman of the Lahore Qalandars – was declared the player of the match. The batsman delivered Ninety-Three (93) runs off Forty balls, scoring TEN sixes (6s) and three fours (4s) before he got out. He got the much-needed support from Smith Patel, who scored Seventy One (71) runs from forty (40) balls. His innings featuring nine fours and only two sixes.
Ben Cutting proved of some help to the Gladiators as he picked up the two most important wickets of Patel and Dunk. Although the damage was already done. It was Cutting alone who put up an impressive performance for the Gladiators when it came to their batting, scoring a half-century that included five sixes and three fours. He made fifty-three off twenty seven balls.
Nawaz pitched in by scoring twenty four runs from seventeen balls before he was dismissed by Faizan, caught by Dilbar Hussain. The Qalandars’ bowled well too as Dilbar Hussain, Faizan and Patel all picked up three wickets each. However, it was Salman Arshad who picked up four wickets to upset the Gladiators the most.
Earlier, Shane Watson looked to be in dangerous form as he hit two sixes but was caught by Dunk off a Dilbar Hussain delivery. He scored twenty three off seventeen balls.
The match concluded with Lahore Qalandars getting their first win of the league and finally looking to get their momentum going. Now the team must prove that the words by the team captain Sohail Akhtar weren’t empty after all.
