Now Reading: Is Maulana Tariq Jamil Launching a Fashion Clothing Line Soon?
Maulana Tariq Jamil is a renowned Pakistani scholar and a religious writer who should need no introduction at this point. Attracting a massive and dedicated his audiences through his speeches and prayers, the religious scholar has been a part of various controversies in the past. Once again, he finds himself in the middle of such a controversy as netizens are wondering whether Maulana Tariq Jamil is going to launch a fashion retail brand soon.
This debate started as a screenshot of the upcoming fashion clothing brand’s page on LinkedIn was shared in a Facebook group. Netizens went into a frenzy seeing this, shocked that the famous television preacher is going to launch a fashion clothing line. The brand page i.e. MTJ [Maulana Tariq Jamil] describes itself in these words; “A fashion retail brand strives to learn and exhibit the principles taught by Maulana and break the eroding stereotype.”
Following was the post shared by an fb user in a group called “KAMN”;
The clothing line’s overview on its Linkedln page states;
MTJ, being supervised directly by Maulana, is dedicated to building on the legacy of ethnic aesthetics. MTJ honours the true values that weave the fabric of our nation. Connected with tradition, enlightened by truth and inspired by virtue, we uphold all the values that reflect the purity of character. Our traditional attire is the epitome of all the virtues we have kept alive and built upon. In every stitch, we have sown the nobility our culture stands for. In every design, we rediscover the elegance that has stood the test of time.
Netizens’ Reaction to MTJ Clothing Line
Netizens displayed mixed reactions to this venture that MTJ has launched. There were very mixed reactions to this i.e. some folks criticized everything on the Linkedln page while others defended Maulana Tariq Jamil.
Lets take a look at what some of these people had to say;
As seen above, some people were of the view that there shouldn’t be any distinction between normal people and the “Maulana Class” as they are people like us too. There were also those who thought that this would simply serve to provide jobs after COVID and that the people who are crying on its launch now will be happy to work for it later, just like what happened with J.
On the other hand, some people straight up mocked MTJ for this, referencing some of his other controversies and labelling this move as ‘commercial molvism’.
There were still those amidst this internet storm who wondered whether all this is real or not. Well, IS this real or not? Apparently, this fashion clothing line launched by Maulana Tariq Jamil currently has 51-200 employees, as per the brand’s LinkedIn Page. Its headquarters is also supposedly located in Karachi, Sindh.
Amidst this confusion, a spokesperson for MTJ has confirmed that it does indeed exist to a private media outlet. The spokesperson did not reveal the launching detail. But, he did state that the clothing brand would be selling shalwar qameez and kurtas.
When is this going to officially launch? Well, nobody knows so far as even its ‘official’ website simply states it to be coming soon. Whatever the release date may be though, its pretty much confirmed that this will indeed be happening.
Maulana Tariq Jamil’s Response
Now, Maulana Tariq Jamil himself has issued an official statement on the matter. He said:
“In 2000, I came up with the thought of opening a Madrassa where students get every knowledge of Islam in Arabic and by the grace of Allah, my dream fulfilled and I opened my first Madrassa in Faisalabad with the name of ‘Madrassa tul Hasnain’ which gradually evolved into 10+ Madrassas till date.
Last year, Pandemic hit the country, which impacted the businesses at large and our Madrassas too, so we had to shutter them down and had to turn the teaching module online. Before, all our madrassas were being run on the volunteer financial support of people, donation of businesses and Zakat but Corona impacted all of them so badly that managing the madrassas financially become an uphill task.
I would hesitate to ask for donation from people and businesses as they were already in dire financial strains because of the COVID-19 and we didn’t have any fixed system of Zakat, which made me so tensed that I was worried how I would manage to run my Madrassas without any finance.
Therefore, I came up with the business idea to start my clothing venture MTJ. But let me make it clear, this brand has no competition with any of the brands and its just for the source of steady finance for the madrassas and foundation, the goal of which is to later build hospitals and schools without seeking any support of businesses or public.
I’m amazed as to why people are so intolerant for a Molvi to start a business, on why people think Molvis should only beg for money before the people. Do they not know that Imam Abu Hanifa, whose fatawas are the one we seek guidance from, was himself the trader of clothes. Now, I appeal you all for the prayers for my news business venture i.e. MTJ”
