Reading Now: Indian Fans Confessed Missing Saba Qamar In “Angrezi Medium”
Saba Qamar is one remarkably prime heritage of Pakistan in the drama and movie industry. She has been in the industry since 2004 and has managed to become one of the most popular and highest paid actresses in Pakistan. With a mere 36 years of age on her pedestal, there is no sign of her stopping anytime soon.
A few days back, an interesting scene popped up during her online live stream on Instagram. Apparently, Saba Qamar’s Indian fans could not help but point out her absence from a recent movie “Angrezi Medium” which is actually a sequel to another movie, “Hindi Medium” in which Saba Qamar had starred back in 2017. Saba had nothing much to say about their admiration, except for blushing and taking a swing at topics.
Hindi Medium (2007) – The Movie
“Hindi Medium” is one of those movies which is a rare example of a Pakistan-India duo cast. Interestingly, Saba Qamar was starred as Meeta, wife of Raj Batra, a character being impersonated by the talented Irrfan Khan. Irrfan Khan was the lead role of the movie, but Saba’s excellent delivery of dialogues and acting skills ultimately made her just as important to the overall movie as Irrfan Khan.
The movie revolves around the staggering love of parents for their daughter. Both Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar want their daughter to study in one of the best English-medium schools. For this very purpose, they go to pretty extreme lengths, including acting as very poor despite being affluent.
Both Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar managed to concoct a very interesting and watchable chemistry on screen throughout the movie. Punches of humor and display of sheer talent and skills enabled the movie to collect a whopping $45 million, making it one of the top 20 highest earning movies in Indian box office.
Angrezi Medium (2020) – The Movie
Inspired by the success of the first production, the franchise moved on to produce a sequel, “Angrezi Medium”. But the franchise had passively received a shock behind the scenes, with the clarification to them that the government had banned the Bollywood industry from starring any Pakistani artist in their cast. This meant that Saba Qamar, the heart of the franchise, could not be a part of it anymore. The production, however, continued at its pace with Kareena Kapoor instead of Saba Qamar.
The movie revolves around a middle class single father who sells sweets for survival. He aspires that he manages to fulfill his daughter’s dream of studying in a top-notch institute in London. His quest leads to a lot of misadventures, changing his perspectives on certain relationships. However, with Saba Qamar missing, Kareena Kapoor did not appear to radiate the same energy in the movie. The movie only managed to gross about $1.7 million.
It is not surprising, but definitely interesting to note that Indian fans confessed missing Saba Qamar in “Angrezi Medium”, openly expressing their admiration for the actress despite the political and ideological tensions.
