The Corona-virus pandemic has twisted and devastated the healthcare system throughout the globe with its unforgiving infectious spread and considerably high death rate. But despite a large number of casualties globally, many countries were found to be significantly less affected by the fatal nature of the virus. In order to sort out the reason for this exception, a study was conducted which revealed some shocking facts.

Research Conducted By NYIT

The college of Osteopathic Medicine from New York Institute of Technology conducted a research in which it was revealed that many countries that still use the BCG Vaccine (Bacille Calmette-Guerin Vaccine) as a part of their national vaccination program have been found to be very much less affected by the corona-virus when it comes to death rate. The research states that the use of BCG vaccine has led to an exponential decrease in the number of deaths by about 6 times.

Many countries have cancelled the BCG transmission programs thinking of it as a primitive vaccine with better competition in the markets. These countries include United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and France – which have been worst afflicted by the virus. These countries stopped the manufacturing and transmission process after 2005.

BCG Vaccine

Bacille Calmette-Guerin Vaccine was produced about a 100 years ago and was put into wide-spread public use since then. It works against tuberculosis pathogens and other parasites extremely effectively. The vaccine is administered to healthy babies right after their birth – especially in countries where tuberculosis is very common. If you have a round faded mark on any of your arm above your elbow area, it is because of BCG administration.

Due to this very vaccine, South Korea and Japan have been found to restrict the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 in their countries.

The Future

Is this vaccine the light in the tunnel we all have been looking for? It is quite debatable as of now. The research states that any vaccine with specificity for COVID-19 will take at least an year to come out for public use.

The best resort as of now is to start administering booster shots of the BCG vaccine among people of all countries as to take the chances of avoiding deaths caused by this novel virus. This vaccine has proven efficiency against a wide variety of viral infections.

Use of this vaccine may provide a time frame to the researchers and scientists to synthesize a proper vaccine and medication by boosting immunity of the people worldwide. Let’s hope this research proves to be fruitful.
