Hailing from Nagar Khas, Gilgit Baltistan, the 5 month-old girl has become Pakistan’s youngest patient to recover from the novel illness that is coronavirus.
Infection, Isolation And Recovery
As per the reports, the 5 month-old girl started showing early symptoms of the COVID-19 virus. The test for the virus confirmed that the infant indeed was infected. This also lead to the conclusion that the infant’s mother would be infected too.
After the test results confirmed the virus’ presence in both the mother and daughter, they were relocated to an isolation center by the health officials. The duo spent about 2 weeks in quarantine in the center, separated from each other.
Recently, the doctors tested the 5 month-old again and the results for the virus came out negative. Hence, after testing for the virus twice, the infant was discharged from the hospital along with her mother.
NOT THE YOUNGEST CASE
Despite her very young age, the 5 month-old infant is not the youngest case of the virus. There HAVE been younger. About a month prior to this, the COVID-19 pandemic had infected a newborn in China. The newborn tested positive for the virus just 30 hours after birth, becoming the youngest case of the novel illness worldwide. As per reports, the baby is now in stable condition and under close watch.
The newborn testing positive meant that the mother of the newborn was also infected. But as of now, it is unclear whether the baby caught the virus in the womb or caught it from its mother AFTER being born.
