On Monday, at least five people were killed and 20 were injured in a blast on Chaman’s Mall Road, stated Assistant Commissioner Zakaullah Durrani. The blast, which caused near half a dozen deaths (as of now) and injured over a dozen, took place in the city’s Mall Road area.

As per sources, the security forces have blocked off the area, shifting the dead bodies and the injured people to a nearby hospital. A thorough investigation was carried out in relation to this explosion by an additional contingent of police officials who later arrived at the Mall Road to conduct said investigation into the blast.

In a statement released by police inspector Muhammad Mohsin, it was revealed that some unidentified miscreants had planted an improvised explosive device in a motorbike. The motorbike in question was parked on the roadside. The attached explosives were detonated by a remote-controlled device.

AC Durrani said that the explosion was targeting a vehicle of the Anti-Narcotics Force. Eyewitnesses gave reports of motorcycles and cars parked in the nearby areas being damaged due to the intensity of the blast. Several shops and houses in the vicinity had their window panes shattered due to the sheer impact of the explosion as well.

Political Leaders Condemn The Chaman Blast

Multiple political figures condemned the Chaman Blast in Balochistan. Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan – Matsuda Kuninori – expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the Chaman Blast. The ambassador stated in his condolence message;

“Any act of terrorism cannot be justified for whatever reason or purpose. My deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of victims and I pray for the early recovery of those injured in the blast.”

He also appreciated the efforts of Pakistan’s security forces in maintaining stability and peace in the country. Mr. Kuninori also reassured that Japan will continue to support the country’s government and its forces to combat terrorism.

The official twitter handle of the PM office also shared a message from Prime Minister Imran Khan, strongly condemning the explosion. The message further expressed grief on the loss of lives and shared prayers for quick recovery of the injured.

Jamal Kamal Khan – Balochistan’s Chief Minister – also condemned the incident. Expressing grief over the loss of precious lives in this cowardly attack, the CM shared his heartfelt condolences with their families. He said that the terrorists’ attempts to obliterate peace in Chaman to achieve their conspiratorial plans will bear no fruit.

Khan also assured that the development of the Pak-Afghan border will put a stop to the illegal movement of criminal elements, along with bringing peace to the whole province. “Protection of lives and property of the patriotic citizens of Chaman is the foremost priority of the government,” he further reiterated.

Other government officials and politicians who condemned the attack were Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz, Khyber Pakhtunkwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, Interior Minister Ijaz Ahmed Shah and Awami National Party President Asfandyar Wali Khan.

Rise In Terrorism In Balochistan

This is truly a horrifying incident, especially since it has been observed that terrorism has taken a strong hold of Balochistan recently. From the explosion in Turbat last month that was also caused by an IED planted in a motorbike to the explosion in March near the Levies Lines of Chaman itself that injured at least, not a month has went past in quite some time when the province hasn’t been terrorized by attackers.

Hopefully, CM Jamal Khan is right and the development of the Pak-Afghan border will indeed bring an end to this horrible streak,
