Soon after Malik Riaz pre-arrest bail request was dismissed, the anti-corruption court Karachi has ordered the arrest of Bahria Town property tycoon Malik Riaz.
The Anti-corruption court judge Nisar Ahmed Khan was hearing the case against Malik Riaz (Bahria Town’s owner). Previously the court had issued summon orders, but Malik’s counselors had been making excuses and defending him on his behalf since the last two hearings.
On Wednesday when court resumed, the judge Nisar Ahmed expressed infuriation and displeasure due to non-compliance of the court’s orders. The court then canceled Riaz’s bail request and ordered his immediate arrest.
Moreover, the real estate tycoon is on bail in cases related to illegally acquiring government land for Bahria Town.
The Attorney General’s Office submitted a two-page application in the top court on August 22.
it read: “It is prayed that the entire money deposited by the Bahria Town (Pvt) Ltd and held by the Supreme Court may be ordered to be deposited in the ‘public account of the federal government’,”
The petition says that the money submitted to high courts and the Supreme Court becomes part of the federal government’s public funds. The money received by Bahria Town should be transferred to the federal government.
