1 GRAM FLOUR (Basen)
We all know what Basen is as Iftar is incomplete without Pakoras. Basen works as a natural exfoliator and removes dead skin cells and so is ideal ingredient to get glowing skin this Ramadan. It will help to bring a new layer of skin, which is off course healthy and glowing. It would not be wrong saying Basen worked as an agent for glowing skin.
Basen Mask
The Basen mask can also help in removing unwanted hair from your face. This mask is best for removing oil from the skin.
Ingredients
Basen, Water, (Rose Water and Balai is optional)
Instructions
- Mix 2 tablespoon of Basen and Water in a bowl (You can add Rosewater instead of plain water)
- You can add Balai if you don’t have acne issues.
- Make a thick paste and apply all over your face.
- Rub your skin in a gentle circular motion before it dries.
- Wash your face after 15 minutes with water.
Usage
Use this mask twice a week.
2. ROSEWATER (Gulab ka Arq)
We are often surprised to find that How our Nani and Dadi got such perfect skin till now?
The reason is rose water. It is commonly known as ‘Arq-e-Gulab’ or ‘Gulab ka Arq’. Rose Water not only cleansed and refreshes the skin but also serves as a skin toner. It helps in increasing the pH of skin which leads to a lighter tone and glowing skin.
Ingredients
Rose Water, Cotton Balls, Spray Bottle.
Instructions
- Put Rose Water in a spray bottle and spray it all over your face and neck.
- Dip the cotton ball in rose water and apply it all over your face and neck.
Usage
For better results use it twice a day, morning and before bedtime.
3. TOMATOES (Tamatar)
Shocked? Yes, tomatoes are not only full of nutrients but also help in clarifying and lightening the skin/hyperpigmentation. Tomatoes are highly rich in potassium and Vitamin C that helps you get glowing skin and add color to your cheeks. It serves as the best guard from sun burning and delay ageing.

4. OATS (Daliya)
Oats are a common item in our kitchens. However, mostly old people of our house take it in breakfast but oats have their own wonders. They are great for removing dead skin and giving the face a natural glow, needless to say, they are also soothing.
Oats Scrub
You can use oats as a scrub as well as a mask. It helps to exfoliate your face and remove blackheads.
Ingredients
Oats, Water, (Rose Water and Milk are optional)
Instructions
- Soak half cup of oats in water for 3-4 hours
- Mix well until it turns to a thick paste.
- You can add some drops of rose water or milk
- Apply this paste all over your face and neck and scrub gently.
- Wash your face after 10 minutes with cold water.
Usage
Once a week.
5. HONEY (Shehad)
This is one of my favorite ingredients because it works excellent whether you use it on the skin or to eat. It protects the skin from pimples because of its antibacterial properties. Moreover, it makes the skin tone lighter and fades the scars and pigmentation due to the bleaching property it contains.

This mask will bring out the natural glow on your skin and leaves the skin spotless.

Raw Honey, (Lemon is optional)
Instructions
- Add 2 tablespoons of honey in a bowl.
- Add 2 tablespoons of Lemon for better results.
- Mix it well and apply all over your face.
- Wash it with water after 15 minutes.
Usage
Use it twice a week.
6. ALOE VERA (Kawar Gandal)
This is a plant and its specialty is it can grow everywhere. You do not need to travel thousands of miles for this plant, just grow it at home. anthraquinone is a compound present in Aloe Vera gel that increases the cell turnover and removes dead cells as well.
Aloe Vera serves as a natural sunblock and reduces hyperpigmentation, which causes the skin to glow brighter.

This mask is an excellent rejuvenator for the skin.

Aloe Vera, (Honey is optional)
Instructions
- Scrap the Aloe Vera gel from the leaf.
- Mash it well.
- Add honey if you want.
- Apply all over the face.
- Wash it with water after 15 minutes.

- Use Aloe Vera gel daily.
- Use Aloe Vera and honey mask twice a week.
7. MILK (Dudh)
Milk is one of the easiest available ingredients for glowing and nourished skin. Raw milk not only helps in detaining but one of the best remedies for those with dry skin.
Tyrosine is the melanin controlling hormone that darkens the skin. Milk keeps a check on the secretion of this hormone and acts as an unbeatable agent for fair and glowing skin.

- Dip cotton balls in milk and pat them all over your face.
- If you don’t have cotton balls then directly splash milk on your face and pat it with hands gently.

8. TURMERIC (Haldi)
Do you ever follow the Totkaz of your granny? If yes, then you’ll know the importance of turmeric in her view. You can find turmeric in your spice cabinet. Curcumin, a powerful antioxidant, and an anti-inflammatory agent are present in turmeric that improved the skin.

This mask lightens the skin tone and leaves it bright.

Turmeric, Water, (Milk, Rose Water, and Ubtan are optional)

- Mix 2 tablespoon of turmeric with water.
- Add Ubtan, Rose Water, and Milk for better results.

9. POTATO (Alu)
Isn’t it exciting to use your favorite Alu to lighten up your skin? Exactly, The juice from raw potato is full of Vitamin C which has natural bleaching properties. Besides this, the remaining scratch can be used to dull the dark spots and lighten the scars and spots of aging and sunburn.

- Grate a raw potato.
- Add one teaspoon of honey and water in it.
- You can add rose water instead of plain water.
- Mix it well and apply it all over your face and neck.

10. COCONUT OIL (Nariyal)
Dry and Dull Skin Problems? No need to worry about this. Grab some coconut oil and then you will surprise to see how fast it nourishes your dead skin and rejuvenates it. Coconut oil has the properties to lock the moisture in your skin and protects it from UV radiation as well.

- Heat-up the 1 tablespoon of coconut oil.
- Apply it to your face and neck.
- Massage gently in a circular motion for 5 minutes.
- Leave it overnight.
- Rinse your face with warm water in the morning.

11. BAKING SODA (Meetha Soda)
Most of you know about how baking soda cleans the teeth or opens the clogs but now you will know what else it can do. Baking soda exfoliates the dead skin and lightens the spots. It has the antibacterial properties which prevent any sort of infection.

This mask will neutralize the pH of the skin. You can’t directly apply soda on your skin without mixing it with other ingredients.

- Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda and olive oil in a bowl.
- Add half teaspoon of raw honey.
- Mix it well and make a paste.
- Apply it to your damp face and neck.
- Massage in circular motions for 10 minutes.
- Rinse with water thoroughly.
Usage
Use it once a week.
12. CUCUMBER (Kheera)
All of us saw a girl sitting in a saloon with cucumber on her eyes. Right?
Cucumber helps in cooling the skin and eliminates the swelling and puffing from the face. It can refresh the skin that leads to glowing skin.
Cucumber Mask
Using cucumber is beneficial but adding yogurt in the mask makes it more effective.

Cucumber, Yogurt
Instructions
- Grate 1 small cucumber and add 2-3 tablespoons of yogurt in it.
- Mix it well and apply it to your face.
- Wash with cold water after five minutes.
- If your skin still oily after wash, use a towel to remove the oil from the face.
Usage
Use it twice a week.
A Complimentary Recipe
Bitter Gourd Juice (Karela)
I still remember my Nani forced me to drink Kareela Juice for healthy skin when I was in my teenage. Bitter ground not only purifies the blood but also prevents the acne and pimples from the face. The juice brings the glow to your skin.
Here is no mask but a recipe for Juice to drink.
Ingredients
- 2-3 bitter gourds (karela)
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper powder to taste
Recipe
- Wash and peel bitter grounds and removes the seeds.
- Cut the clean bitter grounds in small pieces.
- Put the pieces in a blender along with salt, lemon juice, black pepper, and water, if needed,
- Drink the juice.
Usage
Use daily. If not, then thrice a week for better results.
